ZACHARY MARION HERRICK
Zachary Marion Herrick born in Kansas on April 8,1989. He is a Veteran advocate, a public speaker and an artist. After joining the US Army attached to the 25th Infantry Division in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, he was deployed to Afghanistan. On June 25, 2011 his platoon was ambushed, killing his platoon leader, LT Dimitri Del Castillo. Zach was shot in the face.
During his recovery at Walter Reed Medical Center he used art to help recover and heal from his trauma. Now he is using what he has learned as an artist to help other war fighters heal through art therapy.
Zach started his own nonprofit organization, American Heroes HeArt to help other combat wounded men and women reframe their trauma through the creative style of abstract art.
The miracle is not that a combat wounded veteran came home alive, it is that they still have the ability to love.
